A Typical West Coast Cruise of Cyprus

Limassol

We start the cruise from St Raphael resort which is set beside the beach in the less crowded Amathus area of Limassol. Located on the outskirts of Limassol, the St. Raphael Resort combines all the advantages of a carefully chosen, tranquil location: the calm sea on your doorstep and the colourful life of Limassol just a few miles away. With convenient access to the islands modern road network, the marina is hardly more than an hours drive from any other coastal town, mountain village or tourist attraction.

Pissouri

Some of the guide books about Cyprus devote a sentence to Pissouri, some even devote a paragraph to the village and its small beach resort. None of them do justice to the unique character and attractiveness of Pissouri to the visitor and holiday maker. The Cypriot character has been retained, it is still very much a working village of farmers, some of whom have now become involved in farming tourists with varying degrees of success. Its very Cypriot character is what attracts the visitor, holiday maker and expatriate residents. Fortunately this is recognised by many of those in the village. At one time Pissouri village, on the hill, had a fishing jetty a few kilometres away down the hill, known as Pissouri jetty. Now they are two distinct communities, Pissouri village and Pissouri Beach.

Paphos

Situated on the south-west coast of the island you will find the historical former capital of Cyprus, Paphos.Today this popular resort has grown in size and is a bustling tourist area with everything to offer. Legend has it that Paphos is the birthplace of the Greek goddess of Love. Still under the spell of her Aphrodite, the area retaining her magic, has remained despite the impact by time. It seduces its visitor with its majestic landscape, lovely coastline, historical treasures and delightful villages where tradition is still a way of life.

Coral Bay / Lara Bay

Coral Bay is situated to the west of Paphos and now an established resort within its own right, Coral Bay is ideal for a laid back beach holiday. It is also a great base for exploring the west of the island and all that it has to offer. Awarded the European Blue Flag, the actual Bay itself is by far the best natural beach in the area.

Lara Bay, also known as turtle beach lies west of Paphos in the Akamas Peninsula. Here the mountains slope down to the sea and is accessible (for the most part) only along unsurfaced tracks that are several miles long. The beaches and views in the Akamas Peninsula are simply spectacular. A turtle sanctuary is on a long stretch of coastline where attempts are being made to protect turtles and provide safe sites for their egg laying.

Latchi and Polis

The tiny village of Latchi stretches along 3 km of coastline with a sand/shingle beach. The pretty harbour offers a number of excellent fresh fish tavernas that have turned out to be famous island wide. Quiet and unspoilt Latchi is a relaxing place to come to, where your stay will be a peaceful one. A short 3 km drive away is Polis, a small traditional agricultural town bursting with Cypriot culture. Known in ancient times as Marion, the scenic beauty of the area is spectacular from the coastal cliffs to cape Pomos to the pine and cedar forests of the Paphos mountains. Definitely an area to be explored with a great many deserted beaches, a short drive away and interesting villages in the surrounding region.
